#Bisexual Superman reveal sparks threats, police protection

Some Superman fans are seeing red over the recent reveal that Big Blue is bisexual.

Los Angeles law enforcement were dispatched to the homes of a number of DC Comics illustrators and producers as protests from fans over the Man of Steel’s recent coming out rose to the level of credible threats.

DC staffers requested LAPD to patrol the private residences of some artists’ homes, TMZ reported, and the comics offices at Warner Bros. Studios, according to TMZ’s insider sources, though no legitimate harm has yet been reported.

It was just three weeks ago when the current Superman — not Clark Kent, but his 17-year-old son, Jon, who donned the red cape for a new generation — was revealed to be bisexual, after a recent installment of the current series, “Superman: Son of Kal-El,” depicted the young superhero locking lips with a “hacktivist” reporter with a magenta mane, named Jay Nakamura.

“I hope this kind of thing will not be seen as a big deal in the future,” DC artist John Timms told IGN in October.

Jon Kent’s Superman is said to be one more concerned with Earth’s social issues as much as threats from supervillains.

“The question for Jon (and for our creative team) is, what should a new Superman fight for today? Can a 17-year-old Superman battle giant robots while ignoring the climate crisis? Of course not,” said DC writer Tom Taylor last month. “Can someone with super sight and super hearing ignore injustices beyond his borders? Can he ignore the plight of asylum seekers?”

Among DC’s critics includes Dean Cain, 55, former live-action superhero actor in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” which aired from 1993 to 1997.

“They said it’s a bold new direction,” Cain told “Fox & Friends” in a televised interview following the announcement. “I say they’re bandwagoning,”

Superman is the latest hero to officially join the LGBTQ community — alongside Batman’s sidekick Robin, X-Men’s Kate Pryde and the new Captain America, all of whom came out as queer during the past year.
