#Billie Eilish performs at the 2021 Grammys

During last year’s awards show, Eilish scooped up a whopping five awards, including for Album of the Year. It was an honor she was apparently bashful about: In footage from the evening, she could be seen mouthing “Please don’t be me” before her name was announced.

In the year since, she continued to stoke the flames of her fame — and came of age with a bona fide driver’s license. She’s been outspoken about the toll of toxic body-shaming comments often made about her. In October, she was photographed wearing a tank top and shorts in lieu of her usual baggy attire, and recalled the stream of hurtful comments that followed.

“I think that the people around me were more worried about it than I was, because the reason I used to cut myself was because of my body,” the “Ocean Eyes” singer told Vanity Fair of the trending tank top photo. “To be quite honest with you, I only started wearing baggy clothes because of my body.”

The Grammy winner added that she was “really, really glad” the situation hadn’t happened three years ago when she was “in the midst of my horrible body relationship,” or “dancing a ton, five years ago.”

Last month, a documentary about her premiered on Apple TV+, “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry.” In it, she reveals that she was once so obsessed with Justin Bieber — who is now an outspoken Grammys critic — that her mother considered taking her to therapy to deal with her fixation.

“I literally remember sobbing into a pillow because I thought, ‘I’m never gonna feel this way about anyone [else],’” Eilish says of the now-27-year-old “Holy” crooner. “I literally was terrified that when I got a boyfriend when I was older that … he won’t compare.”

“The World’s a Little Blurry” goes inside the making of Eilish’s debut album, 2019’s “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,” which she made with her brother, Finneas — who produced and co-wrote the LP — at their family home. The two siblings have an instinctive, symbiotic creative process built on their tight bond. While he is the architect behind her moody, otherworldly soundscapes — he even won a Producer of the Year Grammy for his efforts — it’s clear that she still has her own vision, even vowing to direct all of her own videos at one point.

Toward the end of the film, she reveals just how dark things have gotten for her. “To be honest with you, I didn’t think I would make it to this age,” says Eilish, who began struggling with depression after a serious hip injury forced her to stop dancing at 13. “I was like 14, 15. I had razors hidden in places, and I had Band-Aids hidden in the little corner of my room. And I always had Band-Aids on my wrists. I was literally locking myself in the bathroom and making myself bleed ’cause I thought I deserved it.”

“The World’s a Little Blurry” also reveals Eilish’s secret relationship with 20-something Brandon “Q” Adams, which ended in 2019.
