#Big winter storm expected in NY for Christmas

No one dreams of a wet Christmas… but it may be what’s in the cards for New York.

A big winter storm is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rain and even some thunderstorms to the East Coast by Thursday — threatening to put a damper on the holiday.

“A potent storm will slowly move across much of the eastern U.S. Christmas Eve during the day and on Christmas itself,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Jessica Storm.

Temperatures will hover in the mid-50s in New York City on Christmas Eve, with rain forecasted overnight in areas ranging all the way from the central Gulf Coast to New England.

“There is the equivalent of 1-2 inches, in some even 3 inches of rain locked up in the snowcover across much of Pennsylvania into New England,” said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson.

The storm will then usher in a bitter Arctic blast for the duration of the holiday, with wind gusts of 32 mph and the mercury dropping to the low 40s in the Big Apple on Christmas Day, according to AccuWeather.

Ahead of that system, some rain and light snow showers could hit the tri-state area overnight into Tuesday, forecasters said.

Wednesday, meanwhile, is expected to sunny, but brisk with temperatures in the low to mid-40s.

That anticipated snowfall on Monday night isn’t forecasted to be nearly as damaging as last week’s blizzard, which dropped up to a foot of flakes on parts of the five boroughs.
