Big Sean has been enjoying every bit of this successful run he’s been on following the release of his fifth studio album, Detroit 2. He’s been doing interviews with different outlets and was named the Detroit Pistons creative director of innovation in December. It’s fantastic to see him in good spirits, given he was going through some tough times before dropping Detroit 2. Thankfully, Sean is back better than ever, and he’s proving that by ringing in his birthday with a brand new video.

On Thursday (March 25), Sean Don celebrated his 33rd birthday by unleashing a dual performance music video for “Lucky Me” and “Still I Rise” off Detroit 2.

Accompanied by Hit-Boy, who produced “Lucky Me,” and several other instrumentalists, Big Sean makes excellent use of the video’s rehearsal space setting with dizzying camera angles and various special effects. The pair of records hit close to home for Sean, as both find him reflecting on personal moments such as his surprising heart disease diagnosis on “Lucky Me” or a messy break-up on “Still I Rise.”

Sean had a special birthday post ready to go on Instagram, thanking all his fans that have been on this adventurous journey with him.

“3.25.88 I arrived, thank you,” Sean wrote in the caption.

The Detroit rapper recently got to relive his childhood when he met Sean Schemmel, the voice actor behind the iconic Goku character from Dragon Ball Z. Sean enjoyed the moment alongside his mother, who told the voice actor how obsessed her son was with the anime.

“It was just amazing,” she said regarding Sean’s obsession. “He loved loved loved loved and still loves, I guess, Dragon Ball Z.”
