#Biden’s campaign knocked on zero doors this week — while Trump’s hit one million

The Trump and Biden campaigns are taking wildly different approaches to canvassing voters amid the pandemic, according to a new report.

Volunteers for President Trump’s re-election effort say they have knocked on one million doors in the past week, while Biden’s campaign knocked on zero and has no intention of doing so, according to a Politico report published Wednesday.

They are counting on phone calls and text messages to convince voters to back Biden this November and seem to be pretty confident about their strategy.

“At first I was nervous, but our response rates on phone calls and texts are much higher and people are not necessarily wanting someone to go up to their door right now,” Jenn Ridder, Biden’s national states director, told Politico.

But the GOP has instead ramped up their efforts to reach voters at home where many are sheltering in place as the pandemic continues.

“From now to Election Day, voters may only see one campaign at their doors,” Elliott Echols, the RNC’s national field director, told the publication.

Echols blamed a lack of enthusiasm for Biden, 77, and said the pandemic was an excuse for them not deploying people onto the streets in battleground counties.

“If this were Barack Obama running, Democrats would want to be out there knocking doors,” he said.

The report illustrates just how much COVID-19 has upended the traditional election cycle, with Biden mostly confined to the basement of his Delaware home where he does interviews remotely, to varying degrees of success.

The president made repeated unsuccessful attempts to hold his large, raucous rallies amid the crisis and last month was forced to cancel the large Republican National Convention in Jacksonville that he planned for.
