Boston Mayor Marty Walsh to head Labor Department and Isabel Guzman tapped to lead SBA

WASHINGTON — President-elect Joe Biden has chosen Boston Mayor Marty Walsh to lead the Labor Department, and is expected to choose Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo as his commerce secretary and Isabel Guzman, a California economic development official, to lead the Small Business Administration, according to people familiar with the matter.

Mr. Walsh is a former union worker who led a Boston union organization that represented electricians and ironworkers before becoming mayor six years ago. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka has been advocating on his behalf.

Ms. Raimondo was elected as the first female governor of Rhode Island in 2014. Before that, she served as the state’s general treasurer. She also led the Democratic Governors Association from 2018 to 2019.

Before she entered public service, Ms. Raimondo co-founded Point Judith Capital, a venture-capital firm.
