#Biden supporters hold golf cart rally in Florida retirement community

Joe Biden supporters on Friday paraded through The Villages retirement community in Florida — the morning after Biden accepted the Democratic presidential nomination.

Fox News reporter Robert Sherman reported that more than 300 golf carts took part in a parade that snaked through the 132,000-person senior citizen community northwest of Orlando.

Footage of the parade shows a variety of slow-moving carts bearing Biden campaign signs.

It’s a significant show of support for Biden in the swing state amid the coronavirus pandemic, which disproportionately kills older people. The county that includes The Villages went for President Trump in 2016 and is an essential vote bank for Republicans to balance Democratic urban areas.

Trump advisers were alarmed this year with some polls showing that typically Republican-leaning elderly voters could go for Biden. Trump recently has projected a calmer image of presidential pandemic management, ditching the fierce clashes with reporters that characterized daily coronavirus briefings in April and May.

Trump narrowly won Florida in 2016 with a 1.2 percent margin of victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton. The state’s 29 electoral votes are crucial to Trump’s re-election hopes.

The president also has seen shows of support in Florida. In June, he retweeted video of his supporters in The Villages riding in golf carts with pro-Trump signs.

Trump often applauds large “boat parades” of supporters off Florida’s coast.

Biden would be the oldest-ever president at 78 if he takes office. Trump, 74, said this week that Biden is “shot” and in mental decline.
