#Biden suggests Trump is ‘responsible’ for contracting coronavirus

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden suggested on Monday night that President Trump is partly at fault for his own coronavirus diagnosis.

Biden lobbed the criticism in an NBC town hall after host Lester Holt asked if he agreed with a poll in which 65 percent of Americans said Trump bore some responsibility for catching COVID-19.

“Look, anybody who contracts the virus by essentially saying, masks don’t matter, social distancing doesn’t matter, I think is responsible for what happens to them,” Biden said.

The former vice president slammed anti-maskers at the event and said wearing a face covering is “patriotic.”

“I view wearing this mask not so much protecting me, but as a patriotic responsibility. All the tough guys say: I’m not wearing a mask. I’m not afraid.

“Well, be afraid for your husband, your wife, your son, your daughter, your neighbor, or your co-worker. That’s who you’re protecting having this mask on. And it should be viewed as a patriotic duty to protect those around you,” he said.

Biden spoke Monday night around the time Trump returned to the White House following three days of treatment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Soon after returning, Trump posted a video message on Twitter where he told Americans “don’t be afraid” of COVID-19.
