#Biden campaign unveils ‘MAGA Mike’ video linking Johnson, Trump on abortion

President Biden’s reelection campaign on Friday unveiled a video linking former President Trump with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in an attempt to highlight their views on reproductive rights issues.

In the video “MAGA Mike,” first shared with The Hill, the Biden campaign complied remarks from both Republicans about reproductive rights.

It starts with Trump saying he “was proudly the person responsible for the ending of Roe v. Wade” and Johnson saying that Roe “gave constitutional cover to the elective killing of unborn children in America.” It also includes Trump calling Johnson “popular and smart” and Johnson saying politicians have “to grapple with” whether destroying embryos in IVF procedures is murder.

Additionally, the video includes a post from Johnson and a statement from Trump suggesting punishment for either a doctor who performs an abortion or a woman who receives one.

“Trump and Johnson: same extreme MAGA agenda,” the video says. The roughly 1-minute video will be posted on the Biden campaign X account.

“Women know they can’t trust Donald Trump on abortion — and this is why: after overturning Roe, saying women should be punished for having abortions, and championing a national abortion ban during his first term, Trump is spending today campaigning alongside one of the most extreme anti-abortion, anti-IVF leaders in Congress,” said Sarafina Chitika, Biden senior spokesperson for rapid response.

“Together, Donald Trump and Mike Johnson would ban abortion nationwide the minute they get the chance — but as President Biden has said, neither one of them has a clue about the power of women. They’ll find out this November,” she said.

The video dropped days after Trump said he would not sign a national abortion ban if reelected and such a bill passed Congress, a comment that the Biden campaign quickly dismissed as a lie while citing his record on the issue.

The Biden campaign this week also launched an ad in Arizona, a key battleground state, after the state’s Supreme Court upheld an 1864 law that makes performing abortion a felony.

On Friday, Vice President Harris is set to travel to Arizona to rally supporters and take aim directly at Trump for the wave of restrictions on abortion rights in states following the overturning of Roe.
