The edited television version of the Berserk series titled Berserk: The Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition will begin airing in Japan on October 1, 2022. The new edit will feature enhancements and additions to certain scenes of the anime that were not present in the original film trilogy. 

The production team also shared a new key visual and PV trailer for the new series. 

Memorial Edition was announced two weeks after the news that the original Berserk manga will be continued by late creator Kentarou Miura’s friend Kouji Mori and his assistants. It commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc movie trilogy that was released from 2012-2013. 

Singer and actress Mika Nakashima will perform the anime’s ending theme “Wish,” while the opening theme will be the film’s theme song “Aria.” In addition, composers Susumu Hirasawa and Shirou Sagisu (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, Berserk) will provide new musical tracks for the edited television series. 

Yuuta Sano (RedAsh -Gearworld-), who worked as a storyboard artist on Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent, is credited as the director of Memorial Edition. Studio 4°C is once again handling the main animation production. 

The original Berserk: The Golden Age Arc trilogy was directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) with Naoyuki Onda (Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash co-character designer) as character designer. 

The first two films, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc: I – The Egg of the King and Berserk: The Golden Age Arc: II – The Battle for Doldrey, premiered in Japan in February and June 2012. The final film, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc: III: The Advent was released in February 2013. 

Kentarou Miura’s original manga series was first serialized in Hakusensha’s Monthly Animal House magazine in August 1989, before moving to Young Animal in 1992. 41 tankoubon volumes have been released in total so far. 

Amazon describes the first Berserk: The Golden Age Arc film as:

He trusts nothing but his own sword. He has no place to call home. The lone mercenary Guts travels a land ravaged by a hundred-year war. Moving from battlefield to battlefield, his skill and ferocity eventually attract the attention of Griffith, the leader of a group of mercenaries called “The Band of the Hawk.” Desiring Guts’s power to help him achieve his goals, Griffith succeeds in recruiting the distrustful Guts by challenging him to a duel and defeating him.

As the Band of the Hawk fight together and their bond as a unit grows stronger, Griffith and Guts’s bond deepens as well.
