#BELLE Anime Film Soars Past $3 Million in U.S. Box Office

Following up on its success in Japan, Mamoru Hosoda’s acclaimed anime film BELLE made a splash of its own in North America. After two weeks in theaters, GKIDS announced that the film has pulled in over US$3 million in the box office, making it Hosoda’s highest-grossing film in the region.

 

Hosoda’s 2018 anime film Mirai was the champion before this with $812,000. 

 

North American screenings kicked off for BELLE on January 14, hot on the heels of IMAX previews in select markets that started on July 12. For another look at the English dubbed version, you can watch Suzu/Belle VA Kylie McNeill perform “Gales of Song” below.

Synopsis:

Suzu is a shy, everyday high school student living in a rural village. For years, she has only been a shadow of herself. But when she enters “U”, a massive virtual world, she escapes into her online persona as Belle, a gorgeous and globally-beloved singer. One day, her concert is interrupted by a monstrous creature chased by vigilantes. As their hunt escalates, Suzu embarks on an emotional and epic quest to uncover the identity of this mysterious “beast” and to discover her true self in a world where you can be anyone.
