No cause of death was given in the statement.
“Our beloved Tony Cook (aka Cookie Monsta) has left us,” the label wrote in a Twitter post. “We are devastated, no words can contain our feelings on such a day.”
“All of our thoughts go to Tony’s family, friends and our heart especially goes out to Tony’s son Olly, the Mini Monsta,” the tweet continued. “The world will miss you Cookie, we will miss you brother.”
The label added that it would not comment further “out of respect for Tony’s family.”
In May 2019, Cookie Monsta informed fans that he was “struggling with mental health issues,” which prompted him to cancel his tour at the time.
“For the past year I’ve been struggling with mental health issues, over the recent weeks and months this has become harder than ever,” he wrote on Facebook. “I’ve not been online recently as I’ve been trying to work through my problems away from the glare of social media. Unfortunately I’ve not made as much progress as I’d hoped, so I’ve decided that I need to take a longer break from the scene.”
He added: “I will continue making and releasing music, beyond that I look forward to being back out to see you soon when I’m better.”
A few months later in August last year, he wrote on Instagram that he was “in a better place.” In March this year, he shared a photo of himself playing a sold-out show at the Hollywood Palladium and teased new remixes in an August post.
Cookie Monsta has been performing under the moniker since 2008, according to his Spotify bio. He released his first mixtape, “Maryland Chocolate Chip Mix,” that year, followed by his first album, “Riot!,” in 2012.
