The track is set to appear on the duo’s upcoming debut album, Doomin’ Sun.
Bachelor, the pairing of singer-songwriter Jay Som and Palehound frontwoman Ellen Kempner, shared their latest single “Sick of Spiraling” on Thursday. The single serves as the third from their upcoming debut album Doomin Sun’ and comes after the singles “Anything At All” and “Stay in the Car”, released earlier this year to critical acclaim,
The acoustic track’s warbly guitar licks and subtle drums are the perfect foundation for Kempner’s hushed vocals, as well as a blazing guitar solo from Big Thief’s James Krivchenia. “I thought if I can’t have my own back /How the fuck can I have yours,” Kempner sings on the track.
“Ellen had the riff in her voice memos for a while, and had originally imagined it as a slow kinda melancholic song,” the band said of the track in its press release. “Once we got together and listened back to the riff we heard it a whole new way as an upbeat driving song. After that, Ellen wrote lyrics inspired by driving on tour and the rush and anxiety of being completely untethered and unprotected on the open road.”
Doomin’ Sun drops on May 28 via Polyvinyl Record Co. Listen to “Sick of Spiraling” above.
