#Automata Ver 1.1a Returns on February 18

“Automata Ver 1.1a Returns on February 18”

The NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a Twitter account has revealed that the delayed anime will resume next week, with its fourth episode set to premiere on February 18.

The delay was announced on January 21, with the official statement citing production schedule disruptions from COVID-19. The first three episodes of NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a were re-aired in the meantime. The anime had its premiere on January 7 (effectively January 8 at 12 AM JST) in Japan.

The A-1 Pictures-produced anime is inspired by 2017’s NieR: Automata, an open world action-RPG set in a distant future where androids battle to reclaim Earth from an army of alien-created machines. The show is directed and series composed by Ryouji Masuyama (Blend S, The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls assistant director) with NieR: Automata creator Yoko Taro as co-series composer. Other main staff include Jun Nakai (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note) as character designer and chief animation director and MONACA (Assassin’s Pride) as music composer.

The returning cast from the game includes Yui Ishikawa as 2B, Natsuki Hanae as 9S, Chiaki Kano as YoRHa’s commander, Keiko Isobe as Operator 6O, Meari Hatsumi as Operator 21O, Aoi Yuuki as Pacal, Daisuke Namikawa as Adam, and Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Eve. Atsumi Tanezaki is playing Lily, a character from the YoRHa prequel stage play and its manga adaptation.

Yoko Taro previously said that the “Ver 1.1a” affix in the anime’s title is due to the original title being “a story we created to be a game, so copying it as is wouldn’t make an interesting story for an anime. So I brought up the idea of changing things around.” The game is a loose sequel to 2010’s Nier.
