MLB has handed down its punishments stemming from the benches-clearing incident at the end of Tuesday’s Yankees-Rays matchup.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman will sit out three games for “intentionally throwing a pitch” at the head area of Tampa batter Mike Brosseau in the top of the ninth inning of the 5-3 win. Chapman was also fined an undisclosed amount for the 101 mph fastball, with MLB citing his previous discipline for head-hunting.

“I think it was a little harsh and that’s the reason why I’m going to appeal the decision,” Chapman told reporters through an interpreter before Tuesday’s game.

Chapman’s actions also cost manager Aaron Boone one game, which he will miss on Wednesday. Bench coach Carlos Mendoza will be managing in Boone’s place.

“I don’t think I should be sitting out tonight, nor Chappy, but I do respect the process,” Boone told media ahead of Wednesday’s tilt.

Tampa manager Kevin Cash, who seemingly threatened the Yankees after his ejection in saying “I have a whole damn stable of pitchers that throw 98 miles per hour,” was also suspended for one game.
