#FBI warns Chicago gangs have ‘shoot on sight’ pact against cops

Dozens of Chicago street gangs have made a pact to “shoot on-sight any cop that has a weapon drawn on any subject in public,” according to an FBI warning.

The FBI’s “Potential Activity Alert” warns that almost three dozen gangs have reached the agreement, including the Vice Lords, Black P Stones and Latin Kings, according to ABC7 Chicago, which obtained a copy.

“Members of these gang factions have been actively searching for, and filming, police officers in performance of their official duties,” warns the alert sent to local law enforcement, according to the outlet.

“The purpose of which is to catch on film an officer drawing his/her weapon on any subject and the subsequent ‘shoot on-sight’ of said officer, in order to garner national media attention,” the August 26 alert says.

The alert became public Monday, just a day after two Chicago officers were shot making a traffic stop early Sunday. Both are expected to survive, and there is no suggestion their shooting was connected to the pact, ABC7 stressed.

Without addressing directly the FBI alert, Chicago’s top cop, Superintendent David Brown, told a press conference that it was clear “people are seeking to do harm to cops.”

“I think it’s bigger than a suggestion,” Brown said. “I think 51 officers being shot at or shot in one year, I think that quadruples any previous year in Chicago’s history. So I think it’s more than a suggestion that people are seeking to do harm to cops.”

Chicago police told ABC7 the force was aware of the gang threat and would take all necessary measures to safeguard officers.

Federal authorities did not give more information on the bulletin, which ABC 7 said was from “a contact whose reporting is limited and whose reliability cannot be determined.”
