Dr. Anthony Fauci, the talkative member of the White House coronavirus task force, underwent surgery Thursday to remove a polyp on his vocal cord, according to a report.

Fauci, 79, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, informed CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta of the operation.

“He had general anesthesia and texted me after to let me know he was doing ok. Doctors have advised him to curtail his talking for a while to allow his vocal cords to recover,” Gupta said in a tweet.

The top infectious diseases doctor has previously addressed his vocal cord issues.

In April, he told the Economic Club of Washington “that when you get your voices damaged a little — I probably have a polyp there — the only way to get better is to keep your mouth shut,” according to CNN.
