AnimEigo Releases Romeo’s Blue Skies TV Anime Blu-ray on July 29

AnimEigo and MediaOCD have announced that the Romeo’s Blue Skies TV anime series Blu-ray will be released on July 29, 2025. The series aired for 33 episodes between January 15, 1995 to December 17, 1995. 

The Blu-ray release marks Romeo’s Blue Skies first release in the English language in a remastered widescreen format. It was previously broadcast in Italy, Spain, Morocco, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Qatar, Indonesia, South Korea, Bahrain, Iran, and U.A.E.

The features on the anime’s Blu-ray disc include the following: 

• • 33-Episode Series Remastered in HD Widescreen
• • Series Presented in Original 4×3 SD and 1080p 
• • Clean Opening and Ending (SD)
• • Original TV Promos (SD)
• • Japanese 2.0 Stereo DTS Master Audio
• • English Subtitles / 3 Discs / Dual Layer 

The 33-episode series was produced in 1995 by Nippon Animation and was directed by Kozo Kusuba, with Michiru Shimada writing the screenplay and character designs by Yoshiharu Soto. The title was part of Nippon Animation’s World Masterpiece Theater line of TV series and is part of AnimEigo’s Ruined Childhood imprint. 

The anime is based on Lisa Tetzner’s 1941 Swiss novel Die Schwarzen Brüder (translated into English as The Black Brothers). 

AnimEigo describes the main synopsis of Romeo’s Blue Skies as: 

Romeo, a poor kid living in a Swiss village, bravely sells himself into servitude as a chimney sweep to save his family. On his way to Milan, he meets a mysterious boy named Alfredo, and they become fast friends. Life as a chimney sweep is hard and dangerous. But together, and with the help of some new friends – the “Black Brothers” – Romeo and Alfredo find themselves striving for a better life.
