#Andrew Rannells Will Not Star in ‘Tammy Faye’ on Broadway Due to Contract Dispute

Andrew Rannells will no longer star in Tammy Faye on Broadway.

Speaking on the red carpet ahead of the Tony Awards, Rannells told CBS that he would no longer be involved in the musical, which is due to open on Broadway this fall, due to a contract dispute. He later confirmed the news on Instagram, while adding that his costar, Katie Brayben, will continue on with the show.

Rannells originated the role of Jim Bakker, Faye’s husband and onscreen co-star, at London’s Almeida Theatre in Fall 2022 and was announced to move to Broadway with the production.

“I’m actually not doing Tammy Faye anymore,” Rannells told CBS on the red carpet. “I’m very sad to say. I was very excited. I’m a huge fan of the show and unfortunately, we got into a situation where we couldn’t quite find terms that made everyone happy, which is really disappointing. Which is why normally they don’t announce an actor before the contract.”

Rannells and Josh Gad both attended the Tony Awards as the stars of Gutenberg! The Musical, which was nominated for best revival of a musical. The prize ultimately went to Merrily We Roll Along.

“I was sad to have to share the news that I will not be continuing with Tammy Faye this fall. Very sad, actually. But Katie Brayben is a super star and I will always be cheering for her and the show’s success,” Rannells wrote on Instagram.
