#Andrew Cuomo’s Parole Board keeps releasing cop-killers

In its latest act of mercy for cop-killers, Gov. Cuomo’s Parole Board has voted to free Anthony Bottom. The old Black Liberation Army soldier gets to walk the streets in October, after four decades in prison.

Back in 1971, Bottom and two others used a fake 911 call to lure Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones into an ambush, killing Jones instantly. Piagentini begged for mercy; they finished him off with a dozen shots.

Denied parole in 2018, Bottom shouldn’t be up again for years. But the board opted to reverse that decision — ignoring pleas from Piagentini’s widow and police unions.

For nearly all his first three decades in prison, Bottom remained utterly unrepentant, cynically calling himself a “political prisoner” framed by the FBI.

But the board paroled his surviving accomplice, Herman Bell, in 2018, and apparently thinks it unjust to hold Bottom to a higher standard. Indeed, it has now sprung 16 cop-killers over the last three years.

Cuomo, meanwhile, has used his own powers to grant clemency to others in prison for cop-killing terrorism. You start to wonder who the governor thinks should be left in prison.
