#Andrew Bird Announces New Christmas Album, Covers John Cale: Listen

Last year, Andrew Bird released a holiday EP called Hark! He’s now announced a full-length Christmas album, also titled Hark! The new record includes the EP’s six songs, along with seven additional tracks. Among the new ones are covers of John Prine’s “Souvenirs” and John Cale’s “Andalucia.” Hear the latter below. The full-length Hark! is out digitally on October 30, with a vinyl edition set to follow on November 13 (via Loma Vista).

Included on Hark! is a new song called “Christmas in April.” In a press release, Bird explained:

There’s an original tune I wrote in April during the most disorienting phase of the pandemic, when I couldn’t help but wonder where we’ll be when the holidays come, if we could be together or not. I’ve been writing a lot of songs inspired by this uninspiring predicament. Let’s hope they all become obsolete as soon as possible.

In other Andrew Bird news, the musician made his debut on FX’s Fargo over the weekend, in his first appearance as funeral home operator Thurman Smutny. He’s also announced that, on October 10, he’ll perform his 2005 album Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs live on Seated.

Bird’s latest studio album, My Finest Work Yet, was released in 2019. The record earned Bird a Grammy nod for Best Folk Album.
