#Amazon Web Services faces second outage in weeks

A widespread outage at Amazon Web Services disrupted various websites and streaming platforms Wednesday — the second AWS outage reported in recent weeks. 

More than 22,000 people had reported issues with the tech giant’s cloud computing service by 10:45 a.m. Monday, according to Downdetector.

The company acknowledged it was investigating connectivity issues in Northern California and Oregon. Between 11:10 and 11:14 a.m., it said the issues had been resolved.

“The issue has been resolved and the service is operating normally,” Amazon said on its online service status page.

Since Amazon Web Services helps run websites and apps for thousands of other companies, any outage can ripple across the internet. 

Doordash, Playstation Network, QuickBooks and Salesforce users reported connectivity issues at the same time as Amazon’s outage Wednesday, according to Downdetector. Amazon’s main e-commerce site and its streaming site Twitch also appeared to be affected.

The problems came about one week after another widespread outage last Tuesday left many people unable to access Facebook, Netflix, Disney+ and Venmo, among other popular sites.

Some users griped about Wednesday’s outage on Twitter.

“Feels like there’s been a lot of AWS outages this year,” complained a popular Twitch broadcaster called GiantWaffle. 

“Bezos owns half the internet and wants to send a reminder every so often,” replied one of his followers. 

Tech entrepreneur Kelly Vaughn quipped that she was “Going to start a weekly ‘AWS is down’ scheduled tweet.”
