Feist and Debby Friday are also up for this year’s prize, with a winner to be named in September.

In June organizers of this year’s Polaris Music Prize revealed its long list of albums in contention to win this year’s award. Now, ahead of the prizegiving, the shortlist of artists progressing in the competition has been announced.

Alvvays, Feist, and Daniel Caesar are all in the running for the prize, which is handed to the act judges rule made the best Canadian album of the year. They are joined on the shortlist by Aysanbee, Begonia, Debby Friday, Gayance, Dan Mangan, The Sadies, and Snotty Nose Rez Kids. The winner of the $50,000 prize will be announced on September 19 at Massey Hall in Toronto. See below for a full list of this year’s nominated artists and albums.

The Polaris Prize judging panel is made up of writers, programmers, and broadcasters who listened to over 200 albums before whittling them down to the final 10. The 2022 Polaris Music Prize was awarded to Pierre Kwenders for his album José Louis and the Paradox of Love.
