#Alicia Silverstone Would Consider Reprising Her Batgirl Role

Batman & Robin is seen as the weakest entry in the history of Batman, but Alicia Silverstone would return to the role of Batgirl if it was an option.

With so many actors from old Marvel and DC movies returning to their roles over the last few years, including Michael Keaton as Batman, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Spider-Men, it is obvious that questions will be asked of who else could be reprising a role in the future. The latest person to suggest a role reprisal is Alicia Silverstone, whose take on Batgirl in Batman & Robin was one of the few highlights of the movie. She was recently asked whether she would consider squeezing into the costume again.

With a new Batgirl on the block in the form of Leslie Grace, it is unlikely that Silverstone will be seen back in character anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean she would be happy to do it if the opportunity arose. In an interview with Comic Book Movie, the actress explained that she is “open to whatever the world brings” to her, adding, “I’ll see what happens and flow.” It would be hard to believe there is space for two Batgirls in the world right now, but just a year ago, many would have said the same about other legacy returns, so it really is a case of never say never.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Last year Marvel rolled out the red carpet for many returning stars from Sony’s Spider-man franchise, and 2022 looks set to be another year of surprise reprisals, with Michael Keaton playing Batman again in both The Flash and Batgirl and many legacy characters being tipped to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There have also been numerous legacy sequels, such as Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the upcoming Hocus Pocus 2, which have brought thirty-year-old movie franchises back to life after their time seemed to have passed. With many of these returns, fans have been more than happy to jump on the nostalgia train, and it looks like we will see more of the same in the future.

The Multiverse Concept Could See Anyone From a Superhero Movie Reprise Former Roles

Marvel Multiverse Timeline

Comic books have provided fans with many universe crossovers in the past, from Aliens and Predator to He-Man and Superman, but the multiverse concept is only now being brought to the DC and Marvel Universes in a big way. Both studios have a lot invested in the multiverse in their upcoming movies and TV offerings, and this seems to be setting Marvel’s Cinematic Universe for a second Avengers: Endgame somewhere down the line with Secret Wars, but for DC, it is seemingly creating the freedom to have more than one version of a character running parallel to each other.

The Batman arrives in cinemas next month, ready to create a whole new Batman timeline that will remain separate from the DCEU, which itself will have both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s Batmen appearing in The Flash towards the end of the year. Leslie Grace’s Batgirl has already been confirmed as a DCEU project, which explains the inclusion of J.K. Simmons Justice League role reprisal as Commissioner Gordon in the film. Whether there is another universe waiting to see Alicia Silverstone return as Batgirl in the future, we can only wait and see.
