During a recent appearance on ESPN’s “First Take,” the former Yankees slugger and potential Mets buyer suggested how additional exposure can help baseball resonate with young fans. A-Rod tipped his hat to the Kardashian-Jenner clan, which first welcomed viewers into its lives 13 years ago with the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” reality series.
“The Kardashians have taught us that more is more. Less is not more. Not in 2020. Not in the future,” Rodriguez said Friday. “You have to open up the floodgates and clone what the NBA and the NFL has done so well. Major League Baseball has an opportunity this year to do that.”
Since its debut in 2007, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” has documented the family’s personal and professional ups and downs, in addition to sharing content on social media platforms.
Rodriguez, 44, noted how baseball can provide fans a similar experience via “access” and “mic’ing players,” which has been done during previous spring training All-Star games.
Baseball has long-been criticized for its struggle to market the game’s biggest stars compared to the NBA and NFL.
Rodriguez, alongside fiance Jennifer Lopez, are among the bidders looking to purchase the Mets from the Wilpons.
