#Alabama mayor admitted to hospital for COVID-related illness

Randall Woodfin — the mayor of Birmingham, Alabama — was admitted to a hospital on Monday due to symptoms related to COVID-19.

Woodfin, 39, was “resting comfortably” at the hospital just five days after announcing that he had tested positive for the virus, the city said in a statement on Twitter late Monday night.

Woodfin was suffering from pneumonia due to his illness.

“He remains in good spirits and thanks everyone for their well wishes,” the statement read.

The mayor said last Wednesday that he had tested positive for the virus and was experiencing mild symptoms.

“Everyone, please remember that COVID is real,” Woodfin said at the time, according to AL.com. “Please be safe and protect yourselves and your loved ones.’’
