Offense
The Jets actually put together a few decent drives in the first half, but they came away with three points. The offense did not reach the end zone until garbage time. The numbers look better than they were. They finished with 277 yards. QB Sam Darnold (21-of-32, 179 yards, 1 TD, 90.5 rating) played better than last week but was pedestrian for most of the day. RB Frank Gore (21 rushes, 63 yards) ran hard but is not able to break big plays. All in all, another awful outing.
Grade: F
Defense
The Jets emphasized not allowing big plays all week. So, on the first play they gave up an 80-yard touchdown to Raheem Mostert (8 rushes, 92 yards, 1 TD). The defense looked lost against a banged up 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (14-of-16, 131 yards, 2 TDs, 140.4 rating), who had a high ankle sprain early in the game and did not play in the second half. TE Jordan Reed (7 catches, 50 yard, 2 TDs) killed them. DE Henry Anderson had a horrendous roughing penalty on third down. S Marcus Maye came back to Earth.
Grade: F
Special Teams
Sam Ficken remans the most consistent player on the Jets. He hit both of his field goal attempts. Rookie punter Braden Mann averaged 44.4 yards per punt and placed one inside the 20. They allowed one big kick return, but overall were better in coverage than last week.
Grade: B
Coaching
This team looks terrible in every phase. That falls on the coach. Adam Gase needs to figure this out quickly or this season is going to completely spiral out of control. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams did not fare much better. His defense gave up an 80-yard touchdown on the first play and later allowed a third-and-31 conversion.
