#Trump touts signing landmark Great American Outdoors Act

President Trump on Wednesday touted the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, landmark environmental legislation that will deliver federal funding guarantees for public lands.

“For those that thought I wasn’t into the Environment, this is the biggest bill ever passed, by far. I wonder if this will silence the Fake News? Probably not!” the commander-in-chief wrote on Twitter.

Trump wrote the message while retweeting a tweet from the White House showing Tuesday’s bill signing for the legislation.

“President @realDonaldTrump signed the Great American Outdoors Act this morning—the largest-ever bipartisan investment into America’s national parks and public lands!” the White House tweet read.

The legislation was approved by the GOP-led Senate in a vote of 73 to 25. It passed the Democratic-held House of Representatives 310 to 107.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Trump argued he and Republicans deserved credit for pushing the legislation forward.

“From an environmental standpoint and from just the beauty of our country standpoint, there hasn’t been anything like this since Teddy Roosevelt, I suspect,” Trump told reporters at the time.

The president has in the past expressed his doubts about the severity of climate change and expressed support for drilling and pipelines.

In 2017, he announced he was pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord, but did not formally move to withdraw until two years later.

“I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris,” Trump said in 2019.
