The Metropolitan Museum of Art is among the 104 sites that were approved by the New York City Board of Elections for early voting Tuesday.
The polls will open at the storied museum for early voting on June 12, ahead of the June 22 mayoral primary election.
The expansion comes after complaints of long lines during the city’s first foray into early voting last October.
“We’re excited to be a polling site, to have a role in our democracy. And we are equally, if not more excited to use this opportunity to invite visitors to come and visit the Met,” said Ken Weine, vice president for external affairs at the Met Museum, according to Gothamist.
The Upper East Side landmark was the only new major cultural institution to join the city early voting push this year, according to the report. It was reportedly among 52 organizations that rejected the BOE’s request to house ballot boxes last year.
Lincoln Center, the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of the Moving Image will once again participate in the program.
Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center declined to partake in the program’s sophomore effort, after hosting voters in 2020.
More than one million city residents took advantage of last year’s inaugural early voting program, and cast their ballots in the presidential contest ahead of Election Day.
