The anime adaptation of A Galaxy Next Door has received its first trailer and key visual, both of which feature the romantic comedy’s main couple. The former also previews the otherworldly nature of heroine Shiori Goshiki, who claims to be an extraterrestrial princess.

An April 2023 release date and new cast and staff information were revealed as well. Rina Endou is voicing Machi Kuga, while Maria Naganawa is voicing Fumio Kuga. On the staff side, the newly announced names include Arisa Taira (Ndaho Kekkon Omedetou!!) as art director, Masumi Ootsuka (Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop) as color designer, and Ryou Kujirai (Ni no Kuni) as photography director.

A Galaxy Next Door is based on the manga by Gido Amagakure, which began in 2020 and released its fourth tankoubon volume this May. It is serialized in Good! Afternoon and published under the Afternoon Comics label.

Kodansha describes the plot as:

Since his father died, manga artist Ichiro has barely scraped by, forced to support his two younger siblings on just a middle school education. He doesn’t even have time to learn how to use a computer, which forces him to keep wrestling with pen and paper. When his art assistants quit to strike out on their own, on top of juggling deadlines, family, and the constant fear of losing his job, Ichiro feels close to a total breakdown. But then a new assistant pops into Ichiro’s life, and his prospects immediately start to brighten! She’s an incredible artist, she always finishes on time, and she’s beautiful, to boot! But she also seems to know an awful lot about him, and soon, she makes a confession that bends Ichiro’s mind beyond the confines of Earth…

Ryuichi Kimura (Aikatsu Planet!) is directing the anime with Gigaemon Ichikawa (The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made) as series composer and Tomoka Ootaki (Girls’ Frontline sub-character designer) as character designer. Asahi Production is the animation production company.

The main cast includes Taku Yashiro as Ichiro Kuga and Yuu Wakui as Shiori.
