Beyoncé began her Cowboy Carter tour at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Monday night, offering the first look at the live show that accompanies her Grammy-winning album of the same name.

As noted by Rolling Stone and USA Today, the Cowboy Carter show lasts nearly three hours and sees Beyoncé play the vast majority of the 2024 album. The set opens with “Amerrican Requiem” and features the singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “II Most Wanted,” plus “16 Carriages.” For the latter Beyoncé flew around the stadium in a classic car draped in an American flag.

Visually, the tour taps into the idea of Beyoncé as an outsider in the world of country music. Videos with a wild west aesthetic are interspered throughout the show with one carrying the message: “Never ask permission for something that already belongs to you.” A video played towards the end of the show depicts her in a gun fight with a white cowboy and emerging victorious. She wore custom Mugler outfits throughout, styled by Shiona Turini. One fit features a corseted bodysuit and matching buckled chaps showcasing 1740 laser-cut bonded fringes.

Another theme of the show appears to be family, with daughter Blue Ivy Carter joining the ensemble of dancers during Renaissance track “America Has A Problem,” Lemonade standout “Formation,” and the 2006 single “Déjà Vu.” Seven-year-old Rumi Carter also made an appearance and waved to the crowd while her mother sang “Protector.”

Noting the historical nature of a Black woman performing country music in a stadium, Beyoncé shouted out those who helped put her on the stage. “I want to thank all of those who came before me,” she said. “I want to thank my fans for letting me make this album. Thank you for giving me the creative liberty to challenge myself.”
