#Biden calls Trump ‘climate arsonist’ in Green New Deal speech as wildfires rage

Joe Biden ripped President Trump as a “climate arsonist” in a speech from Delaware on Monday as the president landed in California to see firsthand the damage caused by devastating wildfires.

The former veep laid out his $2 trillion Green New Deal agenda for America’s future being pushed by the left flank of his party — touting renewable energy jobs, electric vehicles and energy-efficient homes. He did not take questions from reporters.

“Donald Trump’s climate denial may not have caused these fires and record floods and record hurricanes, but it he gets a second term, these hellish events will continue to become more common, more devastating and more deadly,” the Democratic nominee said, standing in front of what appeared to be a field of wheat outside the Museum of Natural History.

“If we give a climate arsonist four more years in the White House, why would anyone be surprised if more of America is ablaze?” he asked.

The president is meeting now with Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom where he will be briefed on devastating wildfires that have decimated more than 3 million acres of land in the Golden State and claimed the lives of 35 people.

Hurricane Sally is also strengthening as it moves towards the Gulf Coast and is expected to make landfall in Louisiana on Monday evening. Parts of New Orleans have been evacuated.

Trump last week took aim at California officials like Newsom over the infernos, accusing him of improperly managing forest debris.

“You don’t believe in climate change. You are excused from this conversation,” Newsom countered in a tweet.

On Monday, Biden, 77, accused Trump of having “no interest in meeting this moment” and said his opponent was a climate change denialist more interested in working with oil companies than protecting the nation’s farmers facing historic drought.

“This is another crisis he won’t take responsibility for. The west is literally on fire and he blames the people whose homes and communities are burning,” he said.

“He failed to protect us from the pandemic, from an economic free fall, from racial unrest and the ravages of climate change,” he continued.

Biden also used Trump’s main “law and order” attack against him, telling a small crowd of reporters: “It’s clear that we’re not safe in Donald Trump’s America.”

“This is Donald Trump’s America. He’s in charge,” Biden said, countering the president’s claims that American suburbs would see anarchy if he is elected.

In a July speech, the former veep unveiled his energy agenda with a focus on pro-union, green energy jobs as he tried to court the progressive left of his party.

In May, Bronx-Queens Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced she had been selected to co-chair Biden’s climate change panel along with former Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

Biden on Monday vowed to return the US to the Paris Climate Agreement which Trump withdrew from in 2017 and said his government would install 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations and build 1.5 million new energy efficient homes across the country.

“Hurricanes don’t swerve to avoid red states or blue states, wildfires don’t skip towns that voted a certain way. The impacts of climate change don’t pick and choose. That’s because it’s not a partisan phenomenon. It’s science,” he said.

He said the US would be a leader in climate change and that he would create 250,000 jobs through the plugging of abandoned, leaking oil and natural gas wells.

“We can and we will solve the climate crisis,” he said.
