#86 Eighty-Six To Air Special Edition On June 26

The first cour of 86 Eighty-Six will be followed up by a Special Edition release on June 26, 24PM JST (effectively June 27 midnight).  It is currently unknown if the Special Edition, titled The Red Poppy, Blooms In The Battlefield (as per iQiyi’s translation), will resemble a traditional episode or take on a different format.

86 Eighty-Six‘s first cour ended on June 20 with its 11th episode. The anime will have two cours.

86 EIGHTY-SIX is produced by A-1 Pictures and based on a light novel series written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabi, with I-IV responsible for the mechanical designs. Crunchyroll describes the anime as:

Called “Juggernaut,” these are the unmanned combat drones developed by the Republic of San Magnolia in answer to the attacks by the autonomous unmanned drones of the neighboring Empire of Giad, the “Legion”. But they’re only unmanned in name. In reality, they are piloted by the Eighty-sixers—those considered to be less than human and treated as mere tools. Determined to achieve his own mysterious ends, Shin, the captain of Spearhead Squadron, which is comprised of Eighty-sixers, continues to fight a hopeless war on a battlefield where only death awaits him.

The staff includes Toshimasa Ishī (storyboarder on Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia and Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld) as director, Toshiya Ōno (The Promised Neverland, Land of the Lustrous) as series composer, and Tetsuya Kawakami (Interviews With Monster Girls, The Asterisk War) as character designer. 

Other staff members include Masanobu Nomura (BNA: Brand New Animal) and Yumi Horikoshi (Fafner the BEYOND Ep 6,7,8) as art directors, Nagisa Abe (Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare) as color designer, Masaharu Okazaki (Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare) as photography director, and Hiroyuki Yoshida (22/7) as CG director.

Voicing lead characters Shinei Nōzen and Vladilena Mirizaré are Shōya Chiba and Ikumi Hasegawa respectively.
