Amaarae: The Angel You Don’t Know [Platoon]

The Angel You Don’t Know is the debut full-length project from Ghanaian-American artist, rapper, and producer Amaarae. The 14-track release features contributions from Cruel Santino, Princess Adjua, Kojey Radical, Moliy, and others. The Angel You Don’t Know also includes Amaarae’s “LEAVE ME ALONE” and “FANCY.”

“I strived to colour outside of the afro-pop parameters and re-define for myself what it means to create African music,” Amaarae said in a press release. “Sonically, visually and spiritually my message is stronger than ever.”

Ana Roxanne: Because of a Flower [Kranky]

Ana Roxanne’s Because of a Flower follows the Los Angeles–based ambient artist’s 2019 debut ~~~. Written and recorded over the span of five years, the album is inspired in part by Roxanne’s experiences as an intersex person. She weaves together drones, soft drums, and layers of vocal loops to summon ambient atmospheres.

Davido: A Better Time [Davido Worldwide Entertainment/Sony UK/RCA]

Nigerian artist Davido has released a star-studded follow-up to 2019’s A Good Time. The new one, called A Better Time, features appearances from Nicki Minaj, Nas, Young Thug, Hit-Boy, Tiwa Savage, and others. The album also includes “So Crazy,” Davido’s single with Lil Baby. Davido and his son Ifeanyi Adeleke executive produced A Better Time.

Aesop Rock: Spirit World Field Guide [Rhymesayers]

Aesop Rock is back with his first solo album in over four years: Spirit World Field Guide, the follow-up to April 2016’s The Impossible Kid, was led by “The Gates,” which received a partially-animated visual directed by Rob Shaw. The 21-track album explores a parallel world and its “terrain, wildlife, and social customs,” according to press materials.

Cakes da Killa / Proper Villains: Muvaland EP [Classic Music Company]

New York MC Cakes da Killa is back with a new EP: Muvaland features four full-length tracks and two interludes, all produced by Proper Villains. Cakes recently released standout single “Don Dada” along with a colorful music video starring Bidi. The Muvaland EP follows Cakes’ 2016 debut album Hedonism.
