“#6 New Characters We’d Like to See Across One Chicago Next Season”

Chicago Fire said goodbye to one firefighter (and got a new one) last season, while one of its paramedics won’t be back in Season 9. P.D. brought in someone new in Intelligence, but what about elsewhere in the station? And Med also saw some changes, but the hospital could always use more hands.
Scroll down as we suggest some new faces (recurring or series regulars) who should join our favorite first responders for the 2020-2021 season.
One Chicago, Wednesdays, Fall 2020, NBC

A new paramedic on Fire
This is obviously going to happen since Annie Ilonzeh has left the show, so it’s only a question of whether Emily Foster’s replacement will fit in at Firehouse 51. And it might not be a bad idea to have a few people give it a try — for multiple episodes each — rather than permanently fill the position all season.

A new firefighter on Fire
But rather than have this new firefighter be a new addition to 51 — the drama has done that multiple times already — why not have him or her be a floater that we see make his or her way to the house multiple times over the course of the season?

Matt Dinerstein/NBC
A new patrol officer on P.D.
Remember when now Intelligence members Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) started out on patrol, occasionally helping Sergeant Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) unit with cases? Maybe it’s time to meet someone who fills that role and see those two serve as mentors.

Matt Dinerstein/NBC
Someone around the station on P.D.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Intelligence get help from a tech and surveillance expert (like Samuel Hunt’s Greg “Mouse” Gerwitz or Archie Kao’s Detective Sheldon Jin) or have an administrative assistant like Nadia Decotis (Stella Maeve). It doesn’t need to be someone holding either position, but why not open up that world?

Elizabeth Sisson/NBC
A new surgeon on Med
Sure, we met Dominic Rains’ Crockett Marcel last season as we said goodbye to Colin Donnell‘s Connor Rhodes, but it hasn’t been the same. There needs to be a new surgeon who is a link between the ED and the surgical floor in a way that Marcel just isn’t (at least yet).

Elizabeth Sisson/NBC
Someone in administration on Med
Let’s get to know Chief of Services Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) world a bit more. Let’s meet someone in her orbit (who won’t serve as an antagonist) and see more of what she does as a result.
