The 49ers gave the 40-year-old head coach a six-year contract extension that runs through 2025, according to ESPN. Shanahan, who is set to begin his fourth season with the team, is coming off a 13-2 season in which he led San Francisco to the 2020 Super Bowl but fell to the Kansas Chiefs.
Shanahan is 23-25 overall after going 10-22 to start his tenure.
Shanahan’s original contract with the team was also a six-year deal signed in 2017. The new contract replaces that one, according to ESPN.
The terms of the deal were not immediately known.
