#Ikkoku Keisei-hen Premieres June 21 in Japanese Theaters, Unveils Main Visual

A new main key visual has been unveiled for the Gintama on Theater 2D: Ikkoku Keisei-hen anime film, which will premiere in Japanese theaters on June 21, 2024. The film is a theatrical edit of the “Courtesan of a Nation Arc,” which consisted of episodes 257 to 261 from the original Gintama TV anime series

Previous voice cast members from the anime series are reprising their roles for Ikkoku Keisei-hen. Production staff of the film has yet to be announced.

The previous theatrically edited film, Gintama on Theater 2D: Thorny Arc, was screened in Japanese theaters on November 10, 2023. 

Hideaki Sorachi’s original sci-fi comedy manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from December 8, 2003 to September 15, 2018. It was then moved to Jump Giga from December 28, 2018 to February 22, 2019. The manga then continued in the free Gintama app from May 13, 2019 to June 20, 2019. A total of 77 tankoubon volumes were released during its publication.  

The manga inspired a long-running TV anime series, as well as three anime films, OVAs, event anime specials, two live-action films, and a live-action web miniseries. Viz Media released the manga’s first 23 tankoubon volumes in English until 2011.

Crunchyroll is streaming the Gintama TV anime and describes the story as:

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
