Star Wars: The Clone Wars expanded on how the franchise continued to be chronicled. A new take on intergalactic adventures found a home in an animated series that elevated the groundbreaking achievements made by the space opera. Focusing specifically on the Republic Army and their struggles opposite of the Separatist Alliance, the fate of the galaxy remained held in the grips of unceasing war. Nestled in between the first two films of the Prequel trilogy, The Clone Wars elaborated on the most pivotal relationships that bound the series together. Newcomer Ahsoka Tano became a necessary character as she accompanied Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Knight Anakin Skywalker on their quest to return a sense of peace to the otherworldly planets caught in the midst of conflict. Story arcs found within The Clone Wars dug deeper into the emotional foundation shared between the trio, playing into the significance of how one was always in need of the other.



Obi-Wan and Ahsoka’s time spent together on-screen gave an opportunity for both of their personalities to stand out in contrast to one another. The stunning conclusive chapter of The Clone Wars paralled the events of Revenge of the Sith from a different point of view. Scottish actor Ewan McGregor honored a legacy left open-ended by Sir Alec Guinness as he rejuvenated Obi-Wan for the more modern age. His portrayal of the General of the Grand Army of the Republic and mentor to Anakin (Hayden Christensen) quickly became adored by Star Wars fans. Upon the announcement that McGregor would return after his sabbatical away from Lucasfilm to lead Obi-Wan Kenobi, high expectations followed the news that generated unmeasurable excitement.

The Mandalorian excelled as an agent in Star Wars storytelling as it translated animated media into live-action on Disney+. Actress Rosario Dawson’s interpretation of Ahsoka flattered the rogue Togruta ex-Padawan as a matured warrior. Christensen’s thrilling reprise as Darth Vader alongside McGregor as Obi-Wan points in the direction of their eventual partaking in the Ahsoka show. Christensen has previously confirmed that he will participate in Ahsoka, leaving fans anxiously keeping an eye out for a similar confirmation from McGregor. If wishes are fulfilled, Obi-Wan could be seen on small screens yet again, this time in the form of a Force Ghost. Here are three reasons why Obi-Wan should return as a Force Ghost in Ahsoka.

3 It Adds A New Layer to Obi-Wan and Ahsoka’s Relationship

The relationship between Obi-Wan and Ahsoka has seen high points and swoops of betrayal, both straining their bond and rebuilding it. Obi-Wan was nearly a grandfather figure to Ahsoka as it was he who essentially raised her Jedi Master, Anakin Skywalker. The Clone Wars was almost taken in a different direction as it was Obi-Wan who nearly took the Togruta youngling under his wing. If Obi-Wan were to appear as a Force Ghost in the Ahsoka series, this would honor both of their on-screen journeys by reuniting them later in life. Being able to find a point of reconnection between them would give them the ability to reflect on their pasts post-Clone Wars. Considering both Ahsoka and Obi-Wan have experienced tremendous character development since their last meeting, Obi-Wan cameoing as a Force Ghost would contribute to his role as a guiding figure in Ahsoka’s life. As her Commanding Officer, Obi-Wan oversaw her performance on the battlefield, but their connection stretched beyond the war grounds. The acquaintance shared by Obi-Wan and Ahsoka has been given time to ripen after time spent apart. If the Jedi was to reach out to his companion from the afterlife, there would be a sentimental element tacked onto their reconciliation. There was once blame placed on Ahsoka for her decisions — blame that can be apologized for after Obi-Wan was given time to reflect on what truly happened.

2 Obi-Wan is Just as Important to Ahsoka as Anakin

Anakin was responsible for overseeing Ahsoka’s training as a Jedi Knight before she departed from the Order altogether. While her relationship with Anakin was one of the pillars that upheld The Clone Wars, Obi-Wan was equally important to her as her Master was. His influence on Ahsoka’s life is not to be overlooked or overshadowed by his former Padawan. Obi-Wan presented an outlook on the more extreme side of Jediism and leveled Anankin’s equally strong personality. Their middle ground of having connections to Anakin is merely a single part of their relationship. Obi-Wan’s by-the-book attitude guided Ahsoka from afar as she navigated her training with Anakin, who was determined to pass along what he knew from his former Master. In reality, he stepped in and inserted himself as a second Master as she proceeded through her Jedi training. He found himself falling into his routine as a mentor previously seen before and offered insight from his own worldview.

It must be remembered that they did not interact just for the sake of interacting; the leading trio in The Clone Wars was assembled for a reason. Ahsoka being able to seek her closure and find her way back to Obi-Wan furthers just how important he was to her throughout the animated series. He was considered to be a fundamental part of her upbringing and deserves to find a place for himself in Ahsoka. Their could-be reunion that depicts Obi-Wan as a Force Ghost attests to their bond, even later in life. It speaks to how, even after time has rifted the two apart, Ahsoka still has the same feelings of fondness and admiration for the Jedi Master. Just as it is imperative that Ahsoka and Anakin cross paths again, the same must be said for Obi-Wan. It is a seal embossed atop their dynamic that reminds Star Wars fans that it wasn’t just Anakin whom Ahsoka looked up to.

1 Ewan McGregor Hasn’t Been a Force Ghost (Yet)

Per The Things, Guinness may have not been too fond of his time spent with Star Wars, but he brought one of the franchise’s most beloved characters to life. Return of the Jedi satisfied an ending for Guinness’s senior Obi-Wan and made room for McGregor to step into the Prequels as a younger iteration of the Jedi Master. Obi-Wan’s fate has been met, and McGregor has taken every necessary means to flesh out the character’s lifespan. Choosing to bring him back as a Force Ghost would be an original callback to the trio at the heart of The Clone Wars without losing the focus of Ahsoka’s solo series. It’s not an angle that McGregor has yet taken with this specific character. The fresh disposition of the Jedi Master would not tread back over McGregor’s previous screen time spent as Obi-Wan, especially following an emotionally-tapped finale of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. McGregor donning the Jedi robes for a third time would avoid being forced or dodge the fan-service allegations if he were to take a more creative approach to elongate his Star Wars legacy. Taking his reignited relationship with Lucasfilm one step further by featuring him as a Force Ghost would be a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
