#3 firefighters hurt battling 5-alarm blaze at auto body shop

A fire raged through a school bus repair shop Saturday morning in Brooklyn, injuring three firefighters, officials said.

The blaze erupted at the Logan Bus Company facility at 3432 Atlantic Ave. in Cypress Hills shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to FDNY Chief of Department John Sudnik.

Stay-at-home mom Cindy Monnar, 28, said she “heard an explosion” about a half-hour before that, looked out her window and saw “a lot of black smoke coming through the gate (of the building)..The block was covered in black smoke.”

“Look mommy, fire!” her 7-year-old son, Kevin Medina, cried out, she said. “I told him, ‘Don’t be scared.’”

The building’s roof collapsed as some 200 firefighters battled the five-alarm inferno for over three hours, but conditions inside were “too dangerous” to enter “because of the advanced fire” and an array of combustible materials spotted inside, Sudnik said at a briefing at the scene.

The three firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries — “sprains and strains” he said.

No civilians were injured, said Sudnik, who said officials planned to monitor the site throughout the night.
