#2nd Mononoke Anime Film Previews Vibrant Fight Scenes in New Special Trailer

Twin Engine has released a new special trailer for the upcoming Mononoke Dainishou: Hinezumi anime film, which previews some of its colorful, vibrant fight scenes. The film, known tentatively in English as Mononoke the Movie Trilogy: Chapter 2: The Ashes of Rage, is set to begin screening in Japanese theaters on March 14, 2025.
Several staff who worked on the first film are reprising their roles for the second film. Kenji Nakamura (previous TV anime series director) is serving as chief director, with Kiyotaka Suzuki (previous co-storyboard artist and director support) as director, Kitsuneko Nagata as character designer, Yuichi Takahashi as animation character designer and chief animation director, and Taku Iwasaki as music composer. Crew-Cell is in charge of the animation production.
Other staff involved in the film include Yoichi Senzui as visual director, Akira Kuramoto and Yoko Saito as background art directors, and Kunio Tsujita as color designer.
The original TV anime series’ character designer Takashi Hashimoto (Revue Starlight the Movie co-main animator, Fate/Grand Order THE MOVIE: Paladin: Agateram co-storyboard artist) is credited as “original character designer” in the films.
Meanwhile, the anime film’s main voice cast stars:
- • Hiroshi Kamiya as Medicine Seller
- • Yuki Kaji as Saburomaru Tokita
- • Daisuke Hosomi as Sakashita
- • Tomoyo Kurosawa as Asa
- • Cho as Yoshimichi Tokita
- • Kenyu Horiuchi as Roju Otomo
- • Yoko Hikasa as Fuki Tokita
- • Haruka Tomatsu as Botan Otomo
The Medicine Seller was previously voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in the TV anime, before being requested by Kamiya in the new films.
The first Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain anime film premiered in Japan on July 26, 2024 and was then streamed on Netflix on November 28, 2024. The project was first announced in June 2022 at the 15th anniversary event of the original Mononoke TV anime series and was originally set for a 2023 release.

Mononoke began with the “Goblin Cat” episodes of the 2006 horror anime anthology Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales, which introduced the stylized look and supernatural horror-mystery premise of the series. It was then followed up with the Mononoke TV anime series in 2007.
Netflix describes the main premise of The Phantom in the Rain as:
In the chambers of the Edo harem, two newcomers uncover political intrigue, rivalry and a vengeful spirit only one traveling medicine seller can vanquish.
