#2020 RNC guide: When it’s on, how to watch, plus speaker schedule

August 24, 2020 | 8:01am | Updated August 24, 2020 | 8:43am

President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and supporters will make the case for four more years during the 2020 Republican National Convention, which kicks off on Monday.

Trump is slated to speak every night of the four-day event in the 10 p.m. Eastern hour, with campaign officials promising an upbeat message under nightly themes of “Land of Promise,” “Land of Opportunity,” “Land of Heroes” and “Land of Greatness.”

The proceedings will serve as a rebuttal to last week’s Democratic National Convention — that saw former veep Joe Biden and California Sen. Kamala Harris accept the party’s nominations as president and vice president — and was a largely virtual affair.

Though some RNC remarks will also be delivered remotely amid the coronavirus pandemic, delegates from each state will assemble in Charlotte, North Carolina to formally re-nominate the Trump-Pence ticket on Monday to begin the proceedings.

Trump will accept the nomination in a climactic speech Thursday evening from the South Lawn of the White House in front of a crowd — and the RNC has requested approval to set off fireworks from the National Mall afterwards.

But in addition to the president, his family and other big GOP names, campaign adviser Jason Miller said Sunday the event will highlight speakers who will challenge preconceived notions of what it means to be a Trump supporter.

The lineup includes Congressional candidate Kimberly Klacik — whose video about “the reality for black people” in Baltimore recently went viral; Alice Johnson, the grandmother Trump freed from prison; and Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow was killed in the Parkland shooting in 2018.

Here’s what else you need to know about the 2020 RNC:
