Z-Ro is now Dr. Z-Ro, as the Houston rapper has received an honorary doctorate from Christian Bible University.

According to FOX 26, the 45-year-old rapper (real name Joseph McVey) was handed an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humanities from Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University this past weekend.

The former Rap-A-Lot Records rapper was also presented with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award alongside fellow Houston rapper Lil Flip.

“Over the weekend some cool shit happened,” Z-Ro wrote on Instagram. “Now when they say ‘Is there a Doctor in the house?’ I can be like ‘Dr. Rothalamu Vandralian at your service!’ I also received a Lifetime Achievement Award!”

“It was my pleasure to nominate Z-Ro because he’s done so much in the community and the city of Houston,” Dr. Candice Matthews, president of the university’s board of regents, said in a written statement.

“But to see Z-Ro being publicly humiliated, I felt that it was high time to lift up our brother!!! What the Devil does to humiliate…. GOD will put you in place to elevate!!! Therefore, we at Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University did just that! Congratulations again Dr. Z-Ro!”

The exciting news comes amidst a tumultuous year for Z-Ro, who over the summer was involved in a physical altercation with his cousin and fellow Texas rapper Trae Tha Truth, and was arrested on gun charges in October.

Harris County Constable Mark Herman wrote on Facebook that the rapper had been pulled over in the 7500 block of N Sam Houston Pkwy W. Z-Ro cooperated with law enforcement and informed the arresting officers he was in possession of a firearm. Police also uncovered 4.7 ounces of marijuana in the vehicle.

“Joseph Mcvey was arrested and booked into the Harris County jail, charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm,” Herman wrote. “His bond and court information have not been set at this time.”

In regards to the fight with Trae Tha Truth, Z-Ro later told TMZ he was essentially ambushed by Trae’s entourage during 50 Cent’s Tycoon weekend in Houston back in August.

“[I was] minding my business and when I walked outside, it was like, I’m called over to the side of sprinter van and he was like, ‘Ay, when you get finished doin’ that, come take this walk with me right quick,” he recalled.

“So, when the video comes on. it’s me making sure, like, you know, I’m not gon’ go home looking like I just fought a football team. I don’t even live my life like that. I got too much positive shit goin’ on, I obviously didn’t expect no shit like that, really.”
