Back in 2020, we begged LEGO to make this Sonic-based set after seeing it in the LEGO Ideas fan submission system. Luckily, earlier this year, the company did just that and announced its plans to make everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog. This week, LEGO officially launched its Sonic the Hedgehog set, but like Sonic, it’ll go fast, and here’s what you need to know.

While the concept certainly looked a little better than what we’re getting, LEGO still delivered an excellent set that gamers and builders both can appreciate. The 1,125-piece kit includes a recreation of the first stage of Sonic’s first SEGA Genesis game, complete with that famous checkered dirt and loop system. As expected, we’re getting some of our favorite Sonic villains, including Dr. Eggman (ok, ok, Robotnik) along with Chaos Emeralds.

Perhaps the best part is the technic-powered spring to launch Sonic character, which looks great. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Sonic in LEGO form, but this version certainly looks the best.

Looking through the build, you’ll see all sorts of small but excellent details. Some of those include palm trees, gold rings for you to jump and gather, the bridge loop, and much more to give you as much nostalgia as possible.

One thing to note is that all the bad guys in this Green Zone set aren’t your typical minifigures, which some people may enjoy. Instead, all the enemies are constructed out of bricks, including Eggman’s Egg ship.

Overall, this epic new LEGO ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ kit comes in at 7-inches tall and 14-inches long. Plus, LEGO says fans can buy multiple sets and string them together for a dual loop system. Additionally, we’re hopeful that what this really means is we’ll be getting more Sonic sets in the future to further complete this iconic level from the original game.

LEGO Sonic will be just as fast as the original, so when it goes on sale starting January 1st, you’ll want to hurry and pony up the $69.99 and grab your own from the link below.
