St. Martinville, LA – YoungBoy Never Broke Again appeared before Magistrate Judge Scott Johnson via video from the St. Martin Parish jail on Thursday (April 15) and reportedly entered a not guilty plea in his federal weapons case. According to WBRZ, the Louisiana native pleaded not guilty to one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of an unregistered firearm.

YoungBoy was arrested in Los Angeles last month following a dramatic foot chase involving a helicopter and the Los Angeles Police Department’s K9 unit. The 21-year-old father of seven was wanted on a federal warrant related to his September 2020 arrest on drugs and weapons charges and reportedly skipped out on mandated drug tests.

After being extradited back to Louisiana, YoungBoy Never Broke Again was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail last week and being being kept there on a federal hold for the U.S. Marshal’s Service. The Top rapper was hopeful he’d be released on bond, but a Louisiana judge shattered that possibility on April 1.

“He is charged with possessing a gun as a convicted felon and he possessed another gun as he fled from law enforcement at the time of his arrest,” the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana reportedly said in the court filing. “When his gun possession is combined with his violent crime, attempts to flee from law enforcement, which included a high speed chase in and around a neighborhood that included a middle school, and his pervasive marijuana use Gaulden clearly and convincingly presents a danger to the community.”

The Baton Rouge Police Department, which was responsible for his 2020 arrest, is currently in the middle of a massive corruption scandal.

Last month, WAFB9 reported District Attorney Hillar Moore’s office is dropping 640 drug cases tied directly to “potential corruption” within the BRPD’s narcotics division.

Cases dropped range from possession to weapons charges dating back as far as 2015. Of the 640 cases, all were handled by officers Jeremiah Ardoin and Jason Acree who were both charged after a departmental investigation appeared to expose corruption within the agency. The case dismissals come nearly a month after four high-ranking detectives within the narcotics division — Sgt. Drew White, Lt. Jeff Pittman, Sgt. Shane Mouch and Sgt. Seth Sinclair — were reassigned, although they haven’t been accused of any wrongdoing.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again is expected back in court mid-June.
