#Yojohan Time Machine Blues Cast Details Released

Cast details for the upcoming Yojohan Time Machine Blues anime have been released. The anime will release on Disney+ in 2022 as a series before getting a theatrical version.

The cast includes Shintarō Asanuma as “Watashi” (“Me”), Maaya Sakamoto as Akashi, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Ozu, Kazuya Nakai as Master Higuchi, Junichi Suwabe as Masaki Jōgasaki, and Yūko Kaida as Hanuki-san.

With the exception of Nakai, all are reprising their roles from The Tatami Galaxy. Nakai first played the role of Higuchi in 2017’s Night Is Short, Walk On Girl, while the late Keiji Fujiwara, who passed in 2020, played the character in The Tatami Galaxy.

Yojohan Time Machine Blues‘s staff includes Shingo Natsume (One-Punch ManSonny Boy) as director, Makoto Ueda (The Tatami Galaxy series composer) as scriptwriter, and Yūsuke Nakamura (The Tatami Galaxy) as the original character designer. Science SARU is the animation production studio.

Written by Tomihiko Morimi and based on a concept by Ueda, the Yojohan Time Machine Blues novel was published in 2020, 15 years after The Tatami Galaxy (2005). AnimeAnime describes Yojohan Time Machine Blues‘s plot as:

The story begins on one hot summer’s day, when ”Me”’s bad friend, Ozu, destroys a certain aircon remote controller from the student dormitories by soaking it in water.

The cool beauty, Akashi-san, who briefly wonders how she is going to spend her summer agrees to come up with a plan when a dim-witted looking male student who claims to have traveled from 25 years in the future by a time machine appears. “Me”, who thinks about returning to the past in the order to retrieve the remote before it was destroyed is, however…..

Meanwhile, Crunchyroll describes The Tatami Galaxy as:

When a college dropout stops for a late night bite at a mysterious ramen stand, he crosses paths with a self-proclaimed deity of matrimony. This bizarre meeting sends the young man hurtling through a horrifying flashback to his not-so-glorious college days when the influence of a cruel new friend turned him from a hopeless romantic into a mischievous “black cupid.”

Science SARU had previously produced the 2010 anime series adaptation of The Tatami Galaxy and the 2017 anime film adaptation of its spiritual successor, Night Is Short, Walk On Girl. Those adaptations were directed by Masaaki Yuasa, with Natsume contributing some of the show’s storyboards and serving as episode director for The Tatami Galaxy‘s sixth episode.
