Yoga in LA, horses in Texas: Cities putting own spin on George Floyd protests

George Floyd protesters share the same rallying cries — but demonstrators across the country have put their own stamp on rallies, with meditation sessions, cowboys and singalongs showing up in different cities.

The crowd in Los Angeles shared a moment of namaste at demonstrations earlier this week, taking some time for yoga and breathing exercises, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Inhale fully through your nose,” one of the protesters instructed, as the crowd partook in stretches. “Exhale fully through your nose.”

Meanwhile, Houston erupted in applause when a group of local cowboys made an entrance on horseback Tuesday, news station KSAT reported.

The group, an urban trail riding club dubbed Nonstop Riders, were seen in video on Twitter leading the crowds through the streets.

“Houston people pulled up with horses. this the most Texas thing I’ve ever seen,” wrote one Twitter user.

Philadelphia residents used the demonstrations to amplify the voice of one of their own — rapper Meek Mill, whose probation battle sparked its own rallies.

“A light hearted moment in the middle of the protest. The crowd in Philadelphia sings [Mill’s] Dreams and Nightmares outside of City Hall,” one user tweeted.

And footage out of Seattle showed protesters in the notoriously rainy city using their umbrellas as as shields.

“Protesters in Seattle are using umbrellas to protect themselves from police. Take notes folks,” one person tweeted.

The demonstrations are some of the dozens that have erupted across the country after Floyd, a black man in Minneapolis died after a white cop, Derek Chauvin, pressed his knee on his neck for several minutes.
