After using two of their three picks on position players in last week’s draft, the Yankees have signed four college right-handed pitchers to free-agent contracts.

According to MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo, the Yankees have inked right-handers Carson Coleman (Kentucky), Ocean Gabonia (Everett Community College in Washington), Trevor Holloway (UCF) and Jared Lessar (BYU) to deals worth $20,000. Players not picked in the first five rounds of last week’s MLB draft were free to sign with a team of their choice. For Lessar, signing with the Yankees was an easy call.

“I hung up the phone and was overwhelmed with a sense of joy and gratitude,’’ Lessar told the Detroit News. Lessar, a reliever who grew up a Yankees fan, wore No. 13 because Alex Rodriguez was his favorite player.

The Yankees selected catcher Austin Wells from the University of Arizona in the first round, second baseman Trevor Hauver from Arizona State in the third round and right-handed pitcher Beck Way from Northwest Florida JC in the fourth round. The Yankees forfeited a second- and fifth-round selection for signing free agent Gerrit Cole last winter.
