Exhibition 2.0 will begin with the Subway Series.

The Yankees announced on Tuesday that their three-game, second preseason schedule will start with a pair against the Mets, July 18 at Citi Field and then July 19 at Yankee Stadium. Joe Girardi’s Phillies will visit The Bronx on July 20, a night game like the two intracity tilts, to close out the Yankees’ preparation for their regular season, which will begin July 23 at the Nationals — all of this assuming the season doesn’t get canceled due to the coronavirus.

“We’re excited to work out and be able to get a few games in. To be able to have it here in our home city, it’s something that we’ll look forward to,” manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday in a Zoom news conference. “Certainly for us, it gives us a pretty good tuneup headed into the regular season.”

It’s believed the last time the Yankees and Mets played an exhibition against each other in New York City was 1983, the final Mayor’s Trophy game. They face each other often in Grapefruit League action, although not necessarily every year (and not in 2020).

“It’ll be good. Playing against your own guys feels like a practice,” Luke Voit said. “It’ll definitely make it more game-like. It’ll be nice to get us ready for Washington so I’m excited for that part.”

Both YES Network and SNY will air the Subway Series games; YES also will broadcast the Phillies-Yankees game.
