#Yankees’ Domingo German reinstated after domestic violence ban

Domingo German still can’t pitch this postseason, but the right-hander is back on the Yankees’ 40-man roster.

German was reinstated by MLB, the Yankees announced Tuesday. German served an 81-game ban for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy last season.

The move was procedural, since even though he’s on the 40-man, German is ineligible for the playoffs because he was still on the restricted list on Sept. 15, when players had to be active to be able to be included on any postseason roster.

Last month, Aaron Boone said German wouldn’t have been a consideration due to the fact he hadn’t pitched in a year.

“To be able to ramp him up and put him in this kind of situation I don’t think is really fair to anyone,’’ Boone said of German, who last took the mound in the middle of last September. “We look forward to Domingo being a really significant part of the team again heading into next year.’’

In addition to the suspension, German has had a rocky season in other ways.

Back in July, the 28-year-old posted to his Instagram account in Spanish that he was done with the sport.

“I left baseball,” German wrote in Spanish. “Thanks my people.”

He later backtracked, saying he let his emotions get the best of him and apologized to the Yankees for the concerning message.

“Baseball is my life and I am not walking away,” German wrote on July 19.

And last month, he captioned a picture of him working out on Instagram with Yogi Berra’s phrase: “It isn’t over till it’s over.”

German went 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA last year before his season ended in September following an incident with the mother of his children. MLB handed down the 81-game suspension in January, which included 18 games he served last fall. The league previously said he would be eligible to play at the beginning of the 2021 season.

He could be part of a rotation that would include Gerrit Cole and Luis Severino, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton and J.A. Happ are due to become free agents following this season. The Yankees also have Jordan Montgomery and young right-handers Jonathan Loaisiga, Deivi Garcia, Clarke Schmidt and Mike King, among others, as options.
