Nearly five years after its launch, the Wyze Cam v1 will be discontinued on February 1st. Wyze will no longer “sell, improve, or maintain” the camera, and notes that customers should upgrade to ensure that their smart home network stays secure from hackers.

Wyze says it’s discontinuing its original security camera because it can’t “support a necessary security update.” While we’re disappointed by the sudden change, it’s clear that Wyze doesn’t have a choice here. Smart home cameras are a prime target for hackers, so Wyze can’t leave important security fixes out of its “supported” devices.

You can still use your Wyze Cam v1 after this date, but as our End-of-Life policy states, Wyze will no longer sell, improve, or maintain Wyze Cam v1.

The original Wyze Cam will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we want to take a moment to say thank you. You chose to support our very first product at Wyze. You put us on the map. You allowed us to pursue our mission to democratize technology… And look at us now.

You can continue using the Wyze Cam v1, but doing so leaves you vulnerable to hacking attempts. For that reason, Wyze suggests upgrading all of your Wyze Cam v1 units. We agree with the company—leaving your security cameras vulnerable to hackers is a terrible idea.

Thank you so much for supporting Wyze’s very first product. As a thank you, here’s a coupon that’s good for $3 off your next Wyze Cam!

If you use a Wyze Cam v1, you should have a $3 coupon for a new Wyze Cam in your email inbox. This coupon works for any model of Wyze Cam, but if you want a direct replacement for your Cam v1, I suggest grabbing the Wyze Cam v3.

The Wyze Cam v3 is a pretty substantial upgrade over its predecessors. It features a new Starlite sensor for Color Night Vision, simultaneous two-way audio, and a wider 130-degree FOV with smoother 20 FPS video during the daytime.

But if you’d like a battery-powered security camera, the Wyze Cam Outdoor is your best bet. It lasts three to six months on a charge and packs most of the Wyze Cam v3’s features, including simultaneous two-way talk.
